Acrylics on 18 x 24 canvas board
January 2016

This piece is a study of the evidence of man, and the impacts of their work on our earth. The invention of electricity, and even the window that the sun is shining through - are all present because of a human. This painting is based off of an original picture that I took in my home that captures the way the sun completely illuminates this vintage-style light fixture. This project was a challenge for me, as I don't usually paint glass or lightbulbs - which are, in my opinion, very hard subjects for an artist. However, by focusing on the reflections and trying my best to exactly replicate my reference photo, I overcame it. When planning this piece, I really wanted to focus on the placement of light and dark values to create great contrast and depth - which is what makes this project so striking and interesting to the eye. I believe that this piece really excercised my skills and broadened my abilities to work with unique subjects - while capturing a truly beautiful image.
